Belle Isle: Fantasy Preview

Well it’s finally the last street parade of the points paying season and this week will hopefully better, last year I thought this was definitely the best street race of last year. Some of this week’s stories include the suspected firing of Sascha Maassen by penske racing, which means that Ryan Briscoe will go back to his old seat for the rest of the season. And, the plausible use of multiple compound’s for next year’s races. Plus, the fact that I am officially announcing that I will from now on do a liveblog for all Indycar series races. But enough of all that onto this week’s fantasy picks that could be used for your TSO fantasy team (see link below).

Favorite: Helio Castroneves will win at Belle Isle, guarantee it
Second: Tony Kanaan he is just due, I know it’s only been since Richmond but he’s due
Sleeper: Oriol Servia If he doesn’t win here he will at Surfer’s in October
No Chance: Scott Dixon has truly given up this year’s champion will be the Dancing With the star’s guy
What to Watch for: E.J Viso The kid has just grown on me and his Infineon performance was quite an eye opener.

By the way that link for the Indycar fantasy league is http://www.tracksideonline.com/fantasy/

After browsing through a few sites lately I found this one
And one paragraph really stood out to me.

” INDIANAPOLIS (March 12, 1994) — Tired of foreign monopolies on cars, drivers and engines, U.S. drivers defecting to NASCAR because they can’t get Indy-car rides, escalating costs and a series top-heavy with road races, Tony George finally decided to do something about it. “

This opening paragraph written by the then Indystar reporter Robin Miller seems to ring eerily familiar. Just look at the utter resemblance between the then CART and what is now the Indycar series. All you need to do is erase the 1994 and insert 2008 and it could be true. The point is this is Indycar not the series that twice went bankrupt and is now non-existent. I am not one of those people who says the IRL won because in all realism the only winner was the oval-laiden Nascar who although I hate to say it has built the racing series America loves by combining great track’s and personalities that fuel it’s popularity. But Tony George did not win the split we he was just the one who was smart enough to see what was right all along, and now he is simply resurrecting the past by doing everything outlined in the above quote. Simply put, Tony George built the series we enjoy and is now ripping it apart to build the thing he founded the Indy Racing League for, to build an American oval-based racing series.

Infineon race review

Well, unfortunately for Tony and the boy’s this week’s boredomfest from Snorenoma was just as I and many of my fellow writer’s predicted. And as with most races I have learned 3 thing’s

  1. Indycar definitely needs to leave Infineyawn because as pressdog reported there were at most 691 people there
  2. If, as Robin Miller says, we could add about 5 or 6 feet of width to Laguna Seca it would be better than
  3. And finally turbo’s and less downforce are needed if these road courses are to stay on the schedule to induce at least one pass…….which would be one more than what we had this weekend

And, for those who are reader’s of Jeff Ianucci’s great blog MyNameIsIRL I will indeed refrain from using the P2 moniker from here on out as he and several other’s have contacting me with an onslaught of complaint’s OVER A NAME!!!!! sorry small outburst there. Okay onto this week’s awards.

  • Move of the race: Will Power for providing great sponsor coverage by plowing into the tire’s on the last lap.
  • Drive of the race: For the first time receiving an award that doesn’t involve his utter lunacy behind the wheel E.J VISO
  • Idiot of the race:ESPN for not uttering a single word about Tomas Sheckter’s retirement( I still don’t know what happened there
  • Wow award:Marty Roth for his great skill by only being punted off track once this week.

Well that’s it for today, but check in regularly for updates, news’s and notes, and other mindless wanderings.
