In the modern Indycar series its sad that an American Oval series we have so many Road courses and even worse than that is the growing abundance of Street circuits. I love road racing but if you want to make it entertaining the cars have to be road racing cars. You can not put one of these heavy oval cars on a road course. They simply don’t have the grip. And Nascar is even worse, most of your passenger cars could take a lap round’ Infineon faster than the Cup cars. Formula One, Sports car, Touring cars, and even Go-Karts have what you need for road racing, super grip, low weight, and low power. That always made me wonder about Champ Car, they had HUGE power and low grip but were still better.Comparatively, Indycars have a lower level of grip, not necessarily more weight but the weight is distributed poorly, and lots O’ power. It is a common American misconception that most have us have come to believe but power is not everything. You can put 900 Horsepower in a car but that car will be horrendously slow on any track that doesn’t have a large amount of banking. By now you are probably wondering (as with most of my posts) “Does this whole rant have a purpose?” and the answer would be yes. I want to personally beg Dallara, please when you make the new chassis keep the grip high, weight low and as close to the bottom as you can. If not then you can stop begging me(Along with several others)to buy a ticket to any of the road courses.

Yesterdays Daytona 390 that is. One word came to mind Anticlimactic. We watch the single file racing for the first 150 laps just to get to the amazing sprint race that is the last 50 laps. And we don’t even get to see it. The race should have continued the next day because it did rain all night in Daytona. Plus the mockery that was the top 10 all got there on pit strategy. And to top it all off my driver (Ryan Newman) got screwed because Goodyear makes tires that can’t stand up for 25 laps and then the jackman can’t quite figure out how to hold a car upright. I know what your thinking “You (pointing at me) watched that! (pointing at Taxi race)” the answer is yes, we do desperate things after 3 months of racing withdrawal.

This week UOWWB asks;
“Many IRL drivers from last season have not been officially signed to a deal for 2009. This includes Ryan Hunter-Reay, Oriol Servia, Justin Wilson, Darren Manning, Buddy Rice, AJ Foyt IV, Bruno Junqueira, Enrique Bernoldi, Jaime Camara, Milka Duno, Townsend Bell, Mario Dominguez, and a few others. How many of these drivers will be driving in the IRL this season?”
Its hard to say but Robin Miller said it best last night on Wind Tunnel. Its absurd that Milk and Donuts gets one of the best rides in the Irl and all of the above listed are jobless, but she brings what owners want, money. Miller even went so far to say that Milkas Citgo sponsorship is worth 12 to 14 million a year!!! That is huge considering most teams need 5 to 6 million a year to run a mid level team. But Dave and Robin also made another good point, in racing there is never enough money and there never will be. Auto racing has survived for ninety years of an economic downturn and we will go on for another 90.
