No Thanks NASCAR

This NASCAR fueled rant is brought to you by the Wisconsin State Fair Board.

About a couple of weeks ago, the news broke that the NASCAR Nationwide Series would take their date that was scheduled at the Milwaukee Mile, which thanks to the WI State Fair Board “couldn’t find a suitable promoter” or personally I thought that they wouldn’t cause they would rather see the track rot & give it the Chicago Motor Speedway treatment, but I digress.

There were plenty of tracks that NASCAR could have used in place of The Mile, or even promoted the event themselves, but instead, they moved the event one hour north to the beautiful track known as Road America. You must be joking. First off, in order to have the event on the same weekend, you have to move the June Sprints, the Chicago Region’s big national SCCA race (which ultimately they did) to the weekend after. Second of all, you have to get support series, kind of hard to do at the last minute, but wait, Trans-Am and the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup guys are free. And finally, you have to have corner marshalls.
One big plea NASCAR, don’t be going and ruining a world class track, like you guys did at Sears Point a number of years back. This means no altering The Kink with the SAFER barriers, because of the layout of that corner, it would make it much more dangerous to put more there to lessen the impact (if you feel that you can’t handle The Kink, there is the bend, but you can’t complain that The Kink is too fast of a corner if you use it.).

Remember when you tried to put the Cup series here several years back? Wasn’t your plan to run straight through T5 & cut back in at T13 to make a modified oval? Not a smart idea, but if you guys still want to try it, go ahead, just be prepared to get grilled in the media. Also, if you decide to put grandstands & garages in the track, please do not, it will ruin the place.

One final thought, it is too bad the IRL couldn’t cut a deal like NASCAR did, but one issue, AMA is at RA the weekend we were set to be at The Mile, and that is owned by NASCAR, so in effect, prepare for the NASCAR-ification of a beautiful track. Though I wish they could all just leave our road courses alone and stick to their ovals.

  1. It will most likely be the same group of scholars that run the races at Watkins Glen. Full course yellows for EVERYTHING!

At least SCCA events at Pocono Raceway, the local SCCA regions run the event. ISC’s people don’t know what a “standing ” & “waving” yellow is. Let alone the “meatball”!

As for NASCAR running ovals better, no way!!! They have terrible races there too. Again excessive yellow flags for TV time outs.

The IZOD IndyCar series has mazaing races and finishes in 1.5 mile ovals. The same tracks for NASCAR are “bore-vals” boring ovals. They only seem to have decent races on tracks 2.5 miles in length. (Daytona,Talladega,Pocono)

So NASCAR can’t do anything right, other than political subversion. But that is a diffrent “right”. Which includes booing Max Papis for being a foriegner (Canadian no less), and even louder boos for Juan Montoya for being a non-white male.

Their fans cry Toyota dosn’t belong in NASCAR becuase “dis is a Americaahn sport, no foreignerrrz should be allowed to git-er-done!” Yet they were proud of German owned MOPARs entry back a decade ago. Even had a foriegner on the hood of the #19 car. The then German head of Dodge. No boos, but hey he was white.

Danica at least has her pale skin in her favor with those twits. As for Milka, some dimwits on SceneDaily.com’s comments about ARCA testing said “Milka dosn’t belong in stock cars, she don’t speak english! Listen to the tape when her and Danica fought. She never spoke in english. Git-er-done!!!” Ok I added the Larry the Cable guy line.

Funny, I recall all of Milka’s comments in English, just with a accent. And NO ONE has any funny accents at NASCAR races.

Except for all the southerners aka Majority of their fans!

I just wish SCCA would take over the Grand -Am series, NASCAR owns by accident the best Pro-Sports car series in North America. But now that a France boy got busted for coke. Maybe they have no interest in it much longer. Clearly they had no interest in prmoting Grand-Am events.

If the Chicago Region is in charge of Race Control, or even the Milwaukee Region, they’ll probably take the “local yellow” err…caution for an incident, send out the safety crew to clean it, and only call a FCY if a wrecker is needed, hopefully pissing them off. I have a lot of experience with these two regions, as I am an official with both of them, so I hope that they can run the race, instead of having a yellow-filled parade

  3. Loved the comment about the Chicago Motor Speedway. I hope the Mile doesn’t go down that same path. Ironically Chicago and the Mile are or were identical tracks. Both were hard to drive and good for open wheel cars.
